Australian consumers will get a better deal from power companies under the 2018 federal budget, with a cash injection of $41.5 million going towards the government’s energy policies. The budget set aside $28.7 million to push ahead with the design and development of the National Energy Guarantee, and the creation of an access data platform which will empower consumers to get a better deal on their power bill by giving them more information about their energy usage.
Australian households will be paying up to $430 more for electricity by the end of 2019, unless wholesale gas prices are significantly reduced. A new report commissioned by the Australian Workers Union found that consumers are already paying between $100 and $200 more than what the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission considers fair.
Think about the appliances you have in your home and how they could be impacting your energy rates. There aren't many that need to be switched on all the time – but when it comes to your Wi-Fi router, it’s working (and using energy) all the time.
